I think (I hope) the smoking neighbor situation has been resolved. Oh please, oh please. While there are two very beautiful apartment complexes that I would love to move into, I don't really feel like moving now. Anyway, the maintenance fellows dropped by on Tuesday and found a rather large opening under my kitchen sink. It's the emergency shut off something or other. I know absolutely nothing about plumbing. It leads into the wall and eventually opens out into the space beneath her bathroom sink. I didn't notice this monsterous opening because it is in the very back of the cabinet, and Jason's mail-order catalogs and snobby UK music magazines are stacked up in front of it. At any rate, it is sealed with caulking, foam and a large wooden board now. It's not exactly pretty, but no one ever looks in the back of the cabinet under the sink anyway. I haven't noticed any cigarette smoke stench coming from the bathroom, so all appears to be well.

My dad sent me a five-hundred word essay he wrote in order to nominate his community improvement organization for a public service award. He asked me to edit it. I almost wrote the entire thing over again. My dad can't write an essay to save his life. He's complained that the past four years they haven't received the award. This may be because he misspelled several words and had some crazy sentence structure going on in the body of the essay. I fixed everything and sent it back to him. Hopefully, my little effort will help them get the award this year. It would tickle him to finally be recognized for what they do to help the community.

My plans for the weekend are: (1) get a haircut and dye my hair, (2) sell the two huge bags of books in my closet floor and buy ones to replace them, (3) attend the ridiculous chihuahua fundraiser on Saturday, (4) avoid attending any Easter celebration at Jason's mom's house, (5) finish at least half of Godslayer by the illustrious Jacqueline Carey.

I'm hoping we might be released from work obligations a bit early today because of the long weekend coming up. I suspect my Friday morning will be spent at one of the two used bookstores near my apartment. If this is the case, then I'll need to get my hair cut today after work. However, I also don't want to miss my daily walk with Ferguson. So, if we don't get off early (allowing me to get my hair cut this afternoon), then I'll have to go get it done after seven o'clock tonight. And that means I can't go to the place I want to go; I'll have to go to the second rate place that I use as a backup. Boo to that.

I have an eight inch pile of paperwork on my desk, and I'm sitting here daydreaming about leaving work early. Obviously, I'm not the most dedicated employee.
So, yesterday I called one of our suppliers about their new invoices and how much they suck. I left the woman (Laurie) in billing a voicemail about how it was taking me an hour to do their invoices when it used to take me about ten minutes. Eric, one of the managers over there, called me back, and this was how the conversation went:

suck up-age )

They showed up with thre huge pizzas, a salad, a case of Coke, and an apology on their lips. We sat in the kitchen and talked about how sorry they are. Apparently, their corporate office forced them into using a new billing system that wasn't quite ready to go live just yet. Now, everything is really messed up, and they are scrambling to fix it. We're one of their biggest customers in the city, so they were falling over themselves to make me happy, which is funny because I don't even decide who we use as an asphalt supplier. Thankfully, Laurie is one of the most awesome people ever, and she and I were able to work out a way to fix the billing problem within a couple months time. We just need to enact a new way of doing things between our two companies so I don't spend hours each day picking through delivery tickets.

I got free pizza out of the ordeal, though. So that's good.

And, the boss is out this afternoon, so I hopped over to the salon to get my hair cut this afternoon around three o'clock.
