The moral of the story is that journalism is in the crapper. Let's just all make up stuff.

As if you didn't have enough social networking sites to juggle, I'm here to tell you to sign up on another one. Go to Last.fm and create an account. I promise it is easy, especially if you use iTunes to organize your music. It transferred my entire library and number of song plays to my account in a matter of seconds. It allows me to look for people who enjoy the same sort of music in an effort to find more music I might like. If you sign up, my username is anogete, like always. Be making with the friendlies so I'm not lonely.

To the stupid little boys who live in the building next to me:
I gleefully watched you move your crap out of your apartment and into the back of your pickup truck this evening after work. So glad to see you moving. I'm the one responsible for kicking up the fuss that put the final nail in your coffin. Good luck finding another apartment because your rental history is currently worth shit.
No love, me.

I got a raise today. Yay for that. She's actually giving me $100 more a week, which amounts to about $2.00 more an hour, give or take. I'm on salary, so I think of it in weekly terms. Looking forward to the extra monies. I'm slightly disappointed there has not been some sort of major payroll crisis since I took over. Things are plodding along, and I'm not even all that busy. The new-to-me office can be seen in this picture and this picture, which also features my tea cart by the bookshelf. The drab carpet and terrible wallpaper are an annoyance, but I can live with them.
This evening I did something I never do. I went out for coffee with a friend. I only met her a couple weeks ago on a new social networking site for nerds. By chance, she was sent to Albuquerque for training at Sandia National Labs. She contacted me and we texted each other yesterday when she arrived in town since we had decided to grab a coffee together. I got a text from her after work, asking if I wanted to meet up at the place across from her hotel. We had a cup of coffee and chatted for over two hours outside on the patio. The weather was nice, especially after the sun set. It was a good time, and we may meet up later this week before she leaves to return to D.C.

In the past week two different people have contacted me to ask permission to translate a couple of my SS/HG fics into Russian. Has anyone got similar requests? It just thought it was odd for two different people to contact me in such a short period of time regarding that.

I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Saturday night and thought it was slow and slightly clumsy at times. As a whole, I didn't really enjoy it. There were good parts, but a couple of the subplots were completely unnecessary. There were not interesting or likable characters. And, personally, I disliked Kate Winslet's character with a passion. I understand where they were going with it and what they were trying to convey, but I felt as if they did a sloppy job of it. Actually, in general, I feel as if movies are too long. At first, I thought this might be due to my watching anime and developing a dwindling attention span. Now, I'm not so sure. I sat down and watched The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, which is about two and a half hours long, and was completely engrossed because it is a masterpiece. Das Boot, a German film about U-boats during World War II was nearly four hours, and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I can watch Tarkovsky films over and over without tiring of them or my attention dwindling, and he is notorious for long films that drone on and on. I think I've just honed in on what I appreciate and enjoy movie-wise. And if I feel the filmmakers are trying to put one over on me, I shut down.

work talk )

If you're looking for homemade treats for your doggie, then I highly recommend Tail Waggin' Temptations. I met the couple that make these treats at the Quixote Humane Easter Parade a few weeks ago and bought a small container of treats from them. Ferguson isn't much for dog bones, but he is in love with their peanut butter heart treats. I just ordered another box off their website, and it arrived a couple days later.

Glengarry Glen Ross is one of my favorite films. I'm such a fan of David Mamet's talk-y movies. Jason and I were quoting it this evening because we were watching Ed Harris in another movie. I popped on YouTube and found this:

(WARNING: Lotsa lota cursing and foul language in the clip below.)

There is so much great dialogue in this film that I could never list it all here, but one of my favorite parts is when Dave (Ed Harris' character) says, "Anybody who talks to this asshole is a fuckin' asshole." So classic. You can see it in the video above at the 1:26 mark.
I'm taking over payroll completely as of Monday next week. I've run payroll checks before, so that's not a big concern of mine. However, I'm terrified I will eff up the weekly tax deposit, 401(k) contributions, or other assorted accounting issues in the general ledger or job cost. I have a pile of notes and a series of check lists to follow when performing various tasks, but I'm familiar with a good deal of it already. It will all be okay. Positive thinking. Because of various issues, I have to move offices. I've wrangled two or three manly men from the field to come in tomorrow and move furniture for me so I can have a new (bigger!) desk and a large bookcase. In the meantime, I'm trying to teach the boss's daughter how to do my job. She's quick on the uptake, but she's nervous about doing the job herself. So, I imagine she's going to be leaning on me heavily for the next two or three weeks until she can get a couple check runs under her belt and falls into the routine of accounts payable.

And, now for something completely different. Andre 3000 will tell you about picking up women in Whole Foods, and then Lloyd will make you pass out about a minute in when he tells you, "Stop... Baby, bring that thing back."

I'm on the bandwagon. My Dreamwidth account is anogete, like it is here. I've done fuck all with it because I just haven't had the time or energy. Plus, creature of habit here, always going back to the LJ. I haven't yet figured out how to friend or subscribe or whatever it is you have to do, so you'd be doing me a favor by friending me there since I don't yet know how to friend you. Is there just a little button by the person's name?

I really dig J.R. Ward's writing style. She cracks me up with the badass banter between the Brothers in her books. ::huggles Rehv and keeps him away from the scorpions and spiders:: Also, holy shit, I love Xhex to death. She's must be one of my all-time favorite female characters ever in the entire world. I absolutely cannot wait for the next novel centered around her and John Matthew.
Jason and I watched The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly last night. Goodness, I had no idea Clint Eastwood was such a sexy bastard back in the day.

One of my favorite bands, the pAper chAse (yes, the caps are intentional), is releasing an album this month. In celebration, I've uploaded my favorite song. Ahh, intellectually violent. Someone I know was distressed that her stepsons like Insane Clown Posse and Slipknot. The boys enjoyed scaring her with the evil, edgy, crazy, angry music. Kid stuff, I told her. Let John Congleton cut you down...

So, How Goes the Good Fight?

In an effort to lessen the time it takes me to get out the door in the morning, I got a neat thing called a Blender Bottle. Typically, I eat cereal for breakfast, though I get little joy out of it since it is too early in the morning to even want to eat anything. The Blender Bottle is a plastic container with a flip lid. It comes with a metal spring-like doo-dad that is dropped in with your beverage. After putting the lid on, you shake it up and let the doo-dad do its work to blend the whatever. I have some protein powder drink mix called Spiru-tien. It's intended as a meal replacement when combined with milk. So, I'm going to do that. Upping my protein intake certainly can't hurt, and it will get me out the door faster since I can drink it in the car on my way to work.

I got it in my head that I need to read Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. I don't want to drop the insane amounts of cash to buy all the volumes, so I looked up the library online. They have all the volumes, but the first two are checked out and not due to be returned until the end of May. Drats.

Because I am the biggest hippie nerd ever, I have started buying my milk from Morning Fresh Dairy just a few hours north in Colorado. The local Whole Foods sells it. The Dairy grows their own food for the cows to ensure they are not given any hormones. They also bottle their milk in nifty glass bottles for freshness. The glass bottles can be returned to Whole Foods to get the deposit back and so they can be sanitized and reused. See my two bottles...

Is it pathetic that I'm so thrilled about milk in actual glass bottles?

I think I have identified almost all the birds hanging out at my feeder. My favorites are the Scaled Quail that enjoy eating the food that has dropped on the ground. They don't normally fly, but they do run away quite quickly if they see Ferguson come 'round the corner. The House Finches are the ones that monopolize the feeder most of the time. However, a Mourning Dove or two tries to squeeze in every now and then. Mostly, they just hang out on the ground with the Quail. The tiny Song Sparrows are another favorite of mine. They seem to enjoy rummaging through my bushes and finding all the dropped food. They'll also fight the House Finches for feeder space. There is one odd bird that I can't seem to identify yet. It's gray-ish in color with a bill length as long or longer than its head. It just looks so unusual to my untrained eye, though I'm sure it is somewhat common in these parts. I only see one of them, though. I get the feeling it is the same bird visiting my feeder, but I can't prove that. (Huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] shehops for mentioning the bird identification website I used.)

I must have the next Black Dagger Brotherhood book. Like now. Because Rehvenge is my favorite. Why do I have to wait until Tuesday? Why can't some unsuspecting bookstore stick it out on the shelf today instead of following the rules?

I've been in a not-so-bad mood about work for the past few days. Payroll Girl found another job. She's been hitting the job search hard for about four weeks now, and finally found something on the base. I'm happy for her because she wanted out much more than I did. She's planning on giving notice this coming week. I'm questioning whether I want to give up my comfy job for another where I most likely won't have the perks I have now. Despite the drama-llama, I have it pretty damn easy. Where else can you openly play computer games and read books without getting reprimanded, you know? So, whatever... I'm still half-assing the job search.

During my hour-long walk yesterday, this happened...

What the crap? Seriously? I was just out for an hour. ::shakes fist at sun::

Also, during the walk I developed a playlist in my head of super awesome songs to take a stroll to on a nice spring day. Have a mix CD of this scrumptious songs...

Many of the songs are quite rhythmic, which I find excellent for walking. Stick them on your favorite MP3 player and strut down the streets of your neighborhood. Just remember to wear sunscreen.

::grumble, grumble, grumble:: It's too early in the morning to deal with the histrionics in this office. I'm in an eff it sort of mood. Some random person called this morning and said he had heard the company is shutting down, and then he said he heard we were selling equipment. I told him I had no idea what he was talking about, even if I do. As far as I know, though, we aren't selling any equipment yet. The shutting down of the company isn't even official. And to top it all off, I have to go to lunch with my co-workers today. I really, really, really don't want to go. Really.

Because I felt like doing nothing at all, I found music--some old, some new.

A co-worker of mine is investigating a few positions on a potential research team. Apparently, an acquaintance of hers is married to a gentleman who has just begun his own company and is attempting to gain a government contract for some sort of scientific research. She was unable to say what sort of research. At any rate, if he gets the five-year contract, he will need a staff of sixty people--scientists and research assistants to keep material organized. The contract will be awarded at the end of the month. If it is awarded to him (instead of Lockheed Martin), there is a chance I could slip in there as a research assistant to one of the scientists. I've heard the pay is stellar. Which would be so nice. But I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch and all. There are a great deal of ifs involved in this situation.

This makes me laugh each time I see it...

The new guy was not ready for my ire this morning. The daily newspaper had done an article on a popular member of Twitter. As I was pouring my morning liter of water he walked into the room and I said, "I fucking hate Twitter." He asked why, and I responded, "It's just another indication of the waning attention span of this society." He nodded slowly and backed out of the room. No offense to any of you who may use Twitter. I just can't use it myself, and I don't read any 'tweets' because the one sentence thing isn't my favorite method of communication. I'm not big on text messaging either. I was just feeling especially grouchy this morning. And no one reads books any longer.

Also, this is a graph of my happiness during the day:

A gaggle of these little guys (gals) hang out in the basin beside my apartment. When I started feeding the birds, they hurried up the hill and partook of the food as well. I rarely see them fly, but I know they can. They prefer walking around on the ground and running away when something scares them. They've taken to sitting on my porch and waiting for the food to drop down. What are they? I think they are quail. They run in packs, but two of them have taken a special liking to my porch. They aren't as dramatically-colored as the pictures of quail on the net, but they do have little whatchamacallits on the top of their heads.

Jason says he's going to shave off all of his facial hair. We'll see how that goes.

Ferguson and I just got back from our walk. I brought the camera to take pictures of the ridiculous snow on the Sandia Mountains in effin' mid-April. The weather is nice today--upper 50s with sun. It's due to climb up to the mid-60s later this afternoon.

the walk turned into ferguson picture spam )

I have a myriad of veggies left over from our produce box this week. It looks like we're having pasta with zucchini, asparagus, and kale for dinner.

I'm working on a top secret knitting project that is going to be Doctor Who related and made of complete awesome. Jason is super excited about it.
A few months ago, I posted this entry about the produce guy at my local grocery store and how he follows me around and acts generally creepy, asking me questions and standing too close. Well, I think I may have discovered why, and I feel like an evil bitch. Like most grocery stores, they hire mentally handicapped people to bag the groceries and retrieve the carts. It never crossed my mind that one would be appointed to the produce department to stock the fruits and veggies. Plus, there was no indication in our previous (short) conversations that he was mentally handicapped. But I think he is, even if he is much higher functioning than some of the others. The last time I was in the store, I was bagging my own groceries because there was no bagger available for my cashier. He was in the produce department several yards away. When he saw me bagging, he rushed over to help. I was slightly annoyed that he was going so far out of his way to bug. He asked if he could help, so I relinquished bagging duties to him and swiped my credit card. Then he looked at the cashier and said, "She's my friend.". Awww... Just the way he interacted with the cashier and him saying that I was his friend made me realize that he's mentally challenged. He thinks I'm his friend! And now I feel horrible for being such a bitch.

I have insane amounts of birds around the feeder I put up a little over a week ago. For the past three days, I have filled it up completely each day. That means my lovely birds are eating eight to ten cups of food in a 24-hour period. It's seven o'clock in the evening, and I can still hear them out there.

It snowed today. The mountains are covered, and since I live at the base of the mountains, there is a dusting of it outside. It's been Spring for a month, and we're still getting snow. Disgusting.

I have a love/hate relationship with country music. I greatly dislike modern country, but I love the more traditional stuff--especially the Bakersfield sound. Lee Ann Womack's new album is wonderful and more traditional that most everything else being released at the moment.
