I have so much love for YouTube right now. Insane amounts of love.

For the last two weeks, I've watched episodes of Blood (Blood Plus) on the Cartoon Network. They show it late Saturday night (or early Sunday morning, whichever you prefer). I immediately took to the show and began a search for the DVDs. You can imagine my disappointment when I realized the episodes have never had a DVD release in the US. I did find DVDs of the first thirty episodes from Malaysia, but they weren't the correct region. An anime nerd (I have much love for the anime nerds) on a message board said that Sony had bought the rights to the DVD release for this series. Apparently, Sony has a shaky track record with anime releases. Basically, they put the series on the back burner if they don't think it is going to rake in the cash.

Dammit. I need to know more about Saya and Haji and all the other people whose names I don't know yet.

YouTube to the rescue! Some kind, kind soul has posted all fifty episodes of the series. I'm downloading the eleventh episode as I type this. For those who aren't aware, you can use this very easy method to download YouTube videos on your hard drive.

*randomosity*

Philips has a DVD player out that has an easy hack (as in 'as easy as pushing a few buttons') to make it regionless, or coded to a specific region. I bought one for about 70 bucks, and it's how I watch all my british stuff. Just a thought should you ever come across a situation like this and youtube doesn't have what you want.

That's a very useful link - thank you for sharing it! Most UK DVD players are region free now, even the cheap ones. All of them do region 1 and 2 (USA and Europe). I don't have to worry about regions anymore.

I've heard that the new thing is the region-free DVD players. When my DVD player dies (which I expect it to do within the next six months), I'll definitely be getting a region-free one. So many of the things I want must be ordered from other countries, and worrying about the region situation is a big pain in the butt.

I have recently had a similar love affair with YouTube, and I've barely tapped its potential.

I found the BBC show SPACED, starring Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead Simon Pegg (whom I luuuvvvv). Since I have a region free player, I bought the series from Amazon UK.

But I'm sure I could use the downloader. Looks like there is one for Mac ;)
