So...quick recap of yesterday's events...

My cell woke me up at 10am yesterday morning. It was Judy with Quixote Humane. She'd spoken to Margaret and processed my application for Ferguson. She wanted to know when I'd like to meet him and bring him home. I managed to talk her into yesterday afternoon around 4pm. Jason and I drove to Peralta (about a 40 minute drive). We went in and met Ferguson. He immediately took to us and jumped into our laps, tail wagging like crazy. We got to know him and talked to Judy for about 30 minutes. Afterward, she put him outside and we filled out all the paperwork. I made tons of promises to treat him right. I also go the full story on his injuries about a year ago. His stomach was ripped open by a larger dog. Vital organs were exposed, but not torn. He doesn't have any health problems at all right now.

We went out to the car and she brought him out. Both Ferguson and Judy cried and I felt bad for separating them. It's wonderful that she gets so attached to the dogs in her shelter. Ferguson most definitely does NOT like cars. He's not familiar with taking a ride because he hasn't left the shelter in nearly a year. When we got back to the apartment we discovered that he doesn't like stairs either. He refuses to walk up them and makes us carry him. I would go all Cesar Milan (dog whisperer) on him, but I didn't want to put too much pressure on him at first. He spent an hour smelling everything in our apartment before we went for a walk. I promised Judy I would call her last night and let her know how he's doing. She seemed happy that he was doing well and made me promise to call her again this morning.

He did wonderfully last night and spent the entire night with his head resting on my arm. It was the cutest thing ever. He hasn't even tried to pee in the house yet and has been holding it until he goes outside. We did a short morning walk before I packed up his bed/toys and him into the car to go to work. I'll probably bring him to work with me for the next couple days to make sure that he'll be okay. Work was very exciting for him - so much so that he got overly nervous and started reverse sneezing along with hacking up some water. I held him in my lap for about an hour and then put him in his bed under my desk. He's been there for an hour sleeping. We'll probably take a ride for lunch and get something to eat for me since I haven't really eaten since yesterday morning. My lasagna last night was waaaay gross.

I just got off the phone with both Judy and with Jason's mom. Jason's mom wanted to check on Ferguson and see how he is doing. I called Judy as promised and she seemed very happy with his adjustment.

So...yeah...yay for the new dog. He's wonderful and very much suited to my personality. Once we get over the nervousness of not know what is going on, everything will be fine.
