So, I tried to like Bloc Party. Really, I did. I saw all those reviews that said the band took themselves too seriously and I wanted to scoff. I can appreciate a band that takes itself seriously. I bet I'll like this one. Acquired a copy of "Silent Alarm" and was intially interested in it. Sounds neat, especially the third track. I did a more thorough listen today and found it lacking. Yes, the reviews are true. They take themselves far to seriously, what with all the supposedly political statements and veiled lyrics. Blah. I tend to shy away from bands that want to preach to me and think they know how to fix the world.

Speaking of which, the latest A Perfect Circle release? Pure shit. Even if they did cover an Elvis Costello song. The impression I got was, "See, we can be political too. Die Bush!" ::rolls eyes:: Oh, come on. Weren't you the mastermind behind the lyrics of "Mer de Noms". That was fucking great. Suddenly you get some radio play and you forget how to create that magic again? I didn't like the second album so much that I forgot the name. It sounded stifled and boring.

But, I'm getting a bit off track here. Bloc Party? Not so hot. I'm officially over it. You indie kids can pat each other on the ass and talk about how much you love them without me. Imperial Teen says, "What I thought was hen turned out to be chicken. You're fucking movie stars? Well, I'm fucking Congressmen."

Way to tell 'em! Haha. I love it. Reminds me of a joke....Bono and the Edge die in a car wreck and meet God on his throne in Heaven. God asks them the same question. First, he says to the Edge: "Edge, tell me what you believe in." He answers, "I believe in Gibson guitars and in the fact that the world would be a much better place if we were alive to make more U2 albums." God tells the Edge to take a seat at his right. "Now it's your turn, Bono," says God. "What do you believe in?" Bono answers, "I believe you're sitting in my seat."

I didn't say it was a *funny* joke.

LOL It was funny and oddly true, I'm afraid. The current U2 puts me off. "With or Without You" was genius though.

Right with you. I'm not totally put-off by the current U2, but I'm not in love with it like the critics were. Gimme Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby any day. With or Without You...I was actually just thinking of that song the other day....

Yes, yes...Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby. None of this silly stuff they are putting out now.

The titles are too damn long! "Stuck in a Moment I Can't Get Out Of Because of my Vertigo at this Elevation I Can't Walk On this Beautiful Day..." Argh.

"Passive" was good. I liked it, but the rest of that album. ::yawn:: Boring. I wanted to beat them all with a stick.

YES it was boring...... I was disappointed with there work... i still love Mer De Noms as an album but the other two i cant say i play very often.

"Mer de Noms" was a masterpiece. It was a beautiful and cerebral and perfect in so many ways. And even though "3 Libras" was overplayed by the radio, it still holds this magic for me. When he sings "You don't see me" over and over again, I get chills.

3 Libras wasn't overplayed here...... infact i dont think they got very much play here...... i stumbled across the album in Virgin and remembered seeing a review for it in Kerrang (music mag) so i thought i'd give it a go.... fell in love with it there and then.
