Let's talk about how much I spoil my dog.

I'm a little bit ashamed to admit that I spent almost $15 on five cans of food for him. It's very good food, though. Human grade, even. I go to a specialty dog food store which specializes in only the best dog food available. A few weeks ago, they were giving out samples of Evangers dog food. I took some home, and Ferguson ate it up. I went back for more last weekend, and stocked up.

Typically, Ferguson gets a half a cup of dry dog food with a couple teaspoons of wet dog food. Evangers sells regular cans of dog food made with quality ingredients, but they also offer special cans of food that are hand packed. These cans aren't the loaf that normal dog food becomes, but expensive human food packed in a can for a dog. I got braised beef, mackerel, and chicken thighs. I haven't opened the beef yet, but check this out...

Yes, that is a whole fish without the head lying on top of his regular food. Everything is still there, even a bit of the fins. It is absolutely disgusting, and it smells even worse. Ferguson loves it, the gross little fellow that he is.

The chicken doesn't look nearly as bad, but the can does contain bones that are cooked in such a way to make them safe for consumption by dogs. They come out a bit chewy and soft enough to cut with a fork. Yeah, eww.

That is Ferguson wondering why I'm taking pictures of his food. He's giving me the "human, you will give me the food" look.

Anywho, if you're looking for a wonderful treat for your dog, then check out Evangers Dog and Cat Food Company. Their representative in Albuquerque was very nice, and Ferguson loves their food. I paid about $10 for a five-pound bag of dry food (pheasant and brown rice). The dinners (regular wet food) aren't all that expensive - about $1.50 a can. The hand-packed specialties are a bit more pricey ($2 to $3 a can), but I only give that as a treat on top of his regular food. I even microwave the frickin' chicken and gravy for him like a loon.

P.S. - I downloaded all of Muse's albums today. I love them. Why didn't I know I loved them before now?

P.P.S. - I think I just adopted another hamster from a girl on Craigslist. I need to stop.

Argh. There is an injured turtle at work, and one of the vets has been making hint-y comments about it coming home with me. And it *is* an awfully nice turtle... Argh! I am pretty darn sure that I have already pushed my landlords to the limit when it comes to pets.

You should take the poor turtle. It needs a home, too. My landlords haven't said anything about the myriad of hamsters/gerbils in my place, so I hope another won't tip them over the edge.

Ferguson is so damn cute!

I don't believe you can spend too much on pet food. My dog is very sensitive when it comes to what he eats. 2 years ago we changed his diet and once we messed with it, his skin broke out in awful blisters, scabs and sores. We had to have his fur shaved :-( and he had to have injections, tablets and special dry food for a while.

The vet said afterwards that we should not change or mess with his diet ever again, and recommended the best food for his Sensitive Royal Pupness. He has been fine ever since!

Usually, if I stick to the expensive foods made with human quality ingredients, then he's okay. His base food is the same everyday (it's the dry food with two teaspoons of the wet). The toppers are just a treat, and I only give him a tiny bit since he can get sick with too much.

It sounds like your has an allergy to something, probably wheat or a protein (chicken, beef, lamb). Those sorts of allergies are fairly common in dogs, but usually to a lesser degree. Poor guy! I can't imagine how much it hurts to have blisters all over. Ferguson is somewhat lactose intolerant. He can handle a pinch of cheese, but if I give him anymore, then he gets sick.
