A couple days after Christmas, I gave away a boombox that had been sitting on my bookshelf for a couple years. I made a post on craigslist asking if anyone wanted it. A load of people e-mailed me about it, but I ended up giving it to this sweet, elderly lady (Mary Lou) who lives in a senior community. She wanted to give it to her granddaughter.

Anyway, my grandmother called me on Tuesday and said she wanted to buy me a 42" widescreen LCD television. O...kay... I was surprised, but I'm not going to argue with an HD flat panel TV. Not at all. The TV she wants me to get is at Sam's Club. She transferred $1,000 into my bank account on Wednesday. It is enough to cover the TV, the tax, and the membership fee to Sam's Club. Jason and I are going to go get it tomorrow night after dinner.

I had no idea what to do with my current TV, so I posted on craigslist and asked if anyone wanted to buy it for $40. About six or seven people e-mailed me about it. One of them was the lady I gave the boombox to. I e-mailed her and told her who I was since I did not post an e-mail address or phone number on craigslist. I also told her she could have the TV for free. I offered to drop it off at her apartment Saturday morning since she doesn't have a car. She just e-mailed me back with this:

OH MY GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS ...YES I WILL TAKE IT..NOT FOR MYSELF ,I REMEMBER YOU..AND MY GRANDAUGHTER IS ENJOYING THE BOOMBOX AND THE T.V. WILL BE FOR HER ALSO...GOD BLESS YOU SWEETIE...YOU ARE RARE AND AN ANGEL ON EARTH THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART...THE TIME WILL BE GOOD AS I REALLY NEVER GO ANYWHERE AND I AM NOT WELL ENOUGH TO GO OUT NOW WITH MY ILLNESS,BUT I WILL BE OK...:),
I HAVE FAITH,
THANK YOU Amanda
HOW IS YOUR CUTIE PIE DOGGY?....

How sweet is she? When I dropped off the boombox, she gave me a hug and asked if I wanted something to eat/drink or if I wanted Christmas candy canes. She adored Ferguson and let him come inside when I stopped by. Even though I was originally planning on selling the TV, I don't need the money all that badly. I'd rather give the TV to her than sell it to some dude who is just going to use it for parts.

So, yay... my old TV has a happy home with a lovely lady and her granddaughter. Call me crazy, but I'd rather drive it across town and give it to her than let someone buy it at my doorstep.

Congratulations on the new TV and I think you are thoughtful in the extreme!

Although I hate this term "paying it forward" is a great thing, and you are doing what the golden rule says to do, and building up karma and peace and harmony in the world.
