I neglected to mention last weekend's movie rentals.
Schizopolis was extremely witty, fast-paced, and funny during the first half, but lost steam during the las 30 minutes. Worth a rent if you enjoy experimentation with dialogue.
Tetsuo the Iron Man was...well, different. It's a Japanese film from '92 about a man who is quickly becoming entirely metal. Parts were very risque, including the death of a woman after having sex with his drill-like penis and a dream he had about being sodomized by this same woman with a large 20 foot long snake-like phallus.
Cowards Bend the Knee was probably my favorite of the three. A silent film that includes: a hockey team, a hair salon that doubles as both a bordello and an abortion clinic, a hint of father/daughter incest, a pair of severed hands, murder, sex, ghosts, and a man unable to commit. Definitely not a film for the average and casual viewer, but I enjoyed the beauty of the settings and the off-balance humor. There was a quote at the end of the movie and I can't remember it for the life of me. I've been looking online, but no sign of it just yet. The movie itself is barely over an hour and consists of ten six-minute chapters that each reveal a part of the story to you. Filmed in black and white and aged to appear much older. I recommend it if you're looking for something a bit different.
