I watched Stalker on Friday night. Jason and I loved Solaris, so we were eager to give another Tarkovsky film a go. I liked it well enough while watching it. It was quite good, even if parts of it made me want to close my eyes and sleep. (I was sleepy to begin with.) However, it's haunting me now. The imagery, scenery, characters, and dialog are stuck in my head. It's very odd. I want to go out and buy a copy of it on DVD so I can exercise this demon. I'm afraid I might start seeing things in the inky colors of the beginning of the film if I don't do something.
This is the poem the little girl reads during this clip:
I love your dear eyes, my friend,
With their play so bright and wondrous,
When you promptly rise them, and,
Like with a lightning in the wildness,
Embrace at once the whole land.
But there's more fabulous attraction:
The eyes directed to the floor
During the crazy osculation,
And through the lashes, set before,
The dusk and gloomy flame of passion.
Apparently, Bjork (who I have much love for) has switched the wording of this poem a bit and set it to music. The song is called "The Dull Flame of Desire". Now I have to stop by Borders and buy the CD on my way home from work today.
In a related note, Jason and I are the biggest dorks ever. We were in Trader Joes (grocery store) on Sunday afternoon. It is insanely busy, especially the frozen foods aisle. I always get extremely irritated and uncomfortable in the mayhem of that aisle. Anyway, in Stalker, there is a man who guides two other men through a dangerous area known as The Zone. It is inferred that a meteor or UFO has affected the area. The guide believes the land to be dangerous, so he makes a habit of throwing a nut (like a nut that goes with a bolt) tied to a white cloth in front of them before they step down the path. As we entered the frozen food aisle, Jason told me that he should have brought some nuts with white cloth to throw down the aisle in front of me since the area always has a bad influence on my mental state. I laughed so hard I nearly fell over into the frozen garlic fries.
Work is going to be terribly boring today. Everyone is out of the office. I told the two remaining co-workers that I'm taking the afternoon off. Payroll Girl is taking an early lunch so I can leave at 11:30 or so. If I stay here, I'll just end up sitting at my desk and reading. I can just as easily do that at home where I'm more comfortable.

I'm pondering the idea of a nut tied to a white cloth. It might not save me but it would sure as hell keep people away from me, which might accomplish the same thing.
