Our accountant, my partner in silly, blatant office sexual innuendo has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He's been in a foul mood the last two weeks - a mood that I couldn't even help him joke his way out of. He finally came clean this morning and told a few people about the news. Over the years he's had several different forms of cancer, including two different skin cancers. On top of that, the poor guy has Crohn's disease which prevents his body from absorbing a great deal of the vitimins he requires from the food he eats. His ex-wife moved to California about a year ago and he's been feeling alone because he has no family in town. A few months ago he went into the hospital for a procedure on a Friday morning. I got a call at work on Monday from a nurse at the hospital. He had asked her to call his office and let me know that he wouldn't be in that day because there were complications. I ordered flowers and had them delievered to his room, then organized a group expedition to the hospital to visit him since he hadn't gotten any other visitors. So I can only imagine how much a blow this news about the liver cancer is to him. What a downer I am tonight...

Still re-watching all of those old Profiler episodes on DVD. Recently saw the one in which Jack (the resident serial killer) does his taxes. Took these screen captures because I thought it was cute. Yes, cute. The (my) mind works in mysterious ways.

Wow, a dark post indeed. That was very cool of you to order the flowers and organize the visit...

Were the stills intended to lighten the mood??

In my warped way, it was intended to lift the mood a bit. It tickled me because he uses the knives and the wire cutters in the screen caps to kill with, the surgical gloves to keep from contaminating the scene, the shovel to bury bodies so he can fertilize the rosebushes that he uses to torment the object of his obsession by sending her roses. And to top all that off, his crazy, unhinged mother is a dependent of his.

How delightful! But I can top that creepiness with 4 words:

America's Funniest Home Videos.

Even worse, I was once told I looked like Bob Saget. Now I'm not typically a proponent of murder, but....

No, I don't think you look like Bob Saget at all. I'm not sure where that person was coming from.

Thank you! Clearly I'm more of the vintage Han Solo-era Harrison Ford variety, anyone can see that.

OH MY GOD. I've sworn for years that the woman who told me that, regardless of its unreality, was the one for me.

So, you're that easy, huh? Just tell you that you've got the Harrison Ford's Han Solo thing going on? ;-)

wodnerful of you to do the flowers and visit. you should have him over for dinner or something. make sure he knows that he's not forgotten and that there are people who do care. i care and i don't even know his name. tell him that. a complete stranger cares about him because you took the time to post it in your lj.

Ahhh, Profiler, perhaps one of my favorite shows of all time.

Is it sad that my nightly ritual is get on my pjs, feed the cat, snuggle up in bed, and watch Profiler or perhaps X-Files?

Well, its either that or read Harry Potter. ;)

That's a great nightly ritual! But I may be biased because it's my nightly ritual. Nothing better clean sheets and a great television show.
