300

([personal profile] anogete Mar. 6th, 2007 11:17 am)
Would it be possible - maybe, kinda, sorta - to just ENJOY A FUCKING MOVIE AS A MOVIE instead of making it into some sort of monstrous political statement about the world today?

In 300, Which is George Bush?

Are we all so obsessed with loving or hating George Bush that he even gets to infiltrate a movie based on a fucking comic book?

And don't any of you start on the metaphors and similarities, throwing out phrases like "defending western culture" and telling me that I just don't get the subtleties. I get it. I understand where the crazies are coming from. What I don't understand is why George Bush rules their lives to the extent that they have to somehow connect him directly to everything they think about. Goddamn. Do the haters/supporters jerk off to thoughts of Bush's State of the Union address, too? I bet they do. What will happen when we get a new president and they can't spend every waking hour trying to play six degrees of separation George Bush style?

Anyway, I might try to talk Jason into going to see 300 with me this weekend or next. And you can bet your best pair of panties that I won't be thinking about Dubya while I watch it.

Heeheehee! Actually I am going to see it for Gerard Butlers pecks, I don't know about anyone else :P

Dude...his pecs are like...a person of their own. And his abs, too. Woo, boy... I'll be keeping an eye on his yummy muscles during my viewing experience. Jason can just pretend that I'm enjoying the violence.

Yeah I heard about all that. The director said he didn't intend there to be any sort of political message but the production company is playing it up for publicity's sake, surprise, surprise. Even if it WAS about Dubya it wouldn't keep me from enjoying the thing. I mean COME ON! IT LOOKS GLORIOUS! If the fact that Frank Miller is a mysoginist dickhead doesn't keep me from seeing it, then bullshit, forced comparisons to Iraq certainly won't.

I saw the blurb from the director where he said he didn't intend a political message. He was probably ambushed by reporters with all those silly questions.

And it does look gorgeous. I'm very excited about seeing it, but I think I'm going to have to wait until next weekend. Jason's dad wants to tag along with us because his girlfriend doesn't like violent movies. She hides her eyes. Whatever.

God bless ya, I hate when people do that. You said it all very well and you better tell me how you like it because I'm curious.

Or a movie based on Herodotus, whence comes the story. Been a while since Herodotus was writing, I don't think he foresaw the United States.

Someone wants me to see it with them, I think the liberties being taken with the actual history will annoy me the most. The Persians didn't have trolls.

I'm avoiding all information on the history of the battle or the war it was within. I have general knowledge of it, but nothing specific. I'll probably do a bit of investigating after I see the film. However, the trolls do stick out. I'm just going to tell myself that they're basing it off a comic book.

I hear you...I like watching movies, shows for the story...not symbolism. People will take anything these days and turn it on to some weird ass political/world Metaphor. Geez...it's a MOVIE! Enjoy it and shut up!
