o_O The poor hamster! I'm glad I split mine up, now. I don't want to wake up to a dead hamster and a cannibal.
I actually have a license to carry concealed in New Mexico (and about 20 other states). I went through some crazy background checks and an 18 hour class last summer. After the class, it took another three months to actually receive the license. So, as of October, I've been carrying a Glock 26 in my purse. Anyone and their mother can carry in the open around here, but you do have to go through a looooong class, prove your ability to shoot accurately, and submit info for some extensive FBI background checks before they let you carry concealed. So, legally, I can conceal a 9mm semi-auto (or a .38 special revolver) or anything below that. The only way I'd get in trouble is if I carried something with a higher caliber (like a .40 or .45). In 2009, I'm going to have to go for a requal at the shooting range, and I'm planning on bringing a .40 caliber to qualify. I don't really think I need to carry something so powerful, but it would be nice to have the option, even if I still carry my 9mm.
