Quiz was stolen from [livejournal.com profile] subvers. I was not exactly expecting this answer, but it does lead into a question I've been meaning to ask the House fans on my flist.

So, I have a comment on this. I don't watch House, but I have seen several episodes - maybe about six or seven in all. It's not a bad show, and I enjoy it when I catch it. I'm just the worst about remembering when television shows are airing. I always forget, and without Tivo, forgetting means not watching. However, the show isn't so amazing that I obsess over it and sit down a full fifteen minutes before it begins to prepare myself. So, it's good, but not that good.

I find myself vacillating between liking House and hating him. During some moments I think he's brilliant and interesting and someone I'd want to be friends with. Other moments, I find him to be obnoxious, self-centered, rude, childish, weak, and just plain pathetic. Is this the intention? I've never exactly liked and hated a character before. I've liked bad guys (generally, I like them more than the good guys), but I've never liked and hated someone at the same time. And, I've never found a character I enjoyed at any point in time to be pathetic in any way. But I do find House to be pathetic more times than not. Not brilliant - just pathetic and useless. Seriously. In those times, I think I'd never be friends with a person like that, even if they wanted my company. I've actually had friends like him and dropped them like a hot potato when they couldn't grow up.

So, what's up with this like/hate thing? Any House fans want to clue me in if I'm missing some important point of his personality and/or history that might make me find him less of a deplorable human being? Something that might make me feel better when I'm having my oh-I-might-like-him-after-all moments?
