Guppies are not peaceful - they are sex mad and just love to snack on the offspring. I cried the first time one of mine gave birth - the other guppies were swimming underneath the mother swallowing the babies as they were born, I put the mother into a separate net enclosure and the others were trying to suck the babies through the mesh but I did save some, then the mother finished giving birth and promptly ate the few surviving babies... It isn't as bad when you have a tankful of the little monsters because you don't get so attached to them and you don't notice how viscious they are either.
