I've been quite lazy about updating lately. Disenchantment with the internet has settled in, and I've been avoiding online things as much as I can. I may sound sedate or unhappy, but I'm really not. I'm just tired and bored.

The raise upped my weekly salary by $40, so that's good. It calculates out to an additional dollar an hour, but I get paid by the week. I still haven't heard any news about the bonus amount. Payroll girl should be getting that information this afternoon. I'm sure she'll spill the beans to me right after she has the list in her hand.

I went on a MAD! shopping spree on Amazon late last week and earlier this week. I bought many lovely DVDs and books. They should be arriving intermittantly through the rest of this week and next. One of the books, The Friendly Jane Austen, I've already received. It's a wonderful book meant to explore her life and work, but not through stuffy, academic critiques. I've read a bit of it already, and I'm enjoying myself immensely. There is a quiz at the beginning of the book to determine what sort of Jane fan you are. I doubt its accuracy, but I had great fun filling it out. When I get a chance, I'll post the quiz on here if anyone is interested.

We had a severe thunderstorm in Albuquerque last night. It was absolutely beautiful. I cannot express how wonderful it is to fall asleep while it's raining. The drawback? The company that replaced our office roof last year didn't know what they were doing. The roof leaked last night during the rain and flooded one of the offices downstairs. My office is safe and dry, but most other offices had minor damage. The insurance company is hopping over to take a look this morning. I had to drop by an office supply store to get a wireless adapter for the gentleman who works in the flooded office. He's taking over one of the offices without water, but it has no internet. Fortunately, I set up a wireless network in the office a couple weeks ago. I'm looking forward to the long weekend. Not having to work on Monday and Tuesday will be a blessing because I really am burned out on work at the moment.

I watched the first half of the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries last Saturday, but realized that I didn't have time to watch the second half. Drats. I'm watching it this coming Saturday because I can wait no longer. I also plan on avoiding real life, dogsitting Bean, and sitting out on my patio with a few excellent books. The guys next door will get a rock through their window if they turn on the shitty music that interrupts my reading.
