The new White Stripes album is good. They're not one of my top five bands, but I do like them and think Jack White is a musicial genius. He kicks my ass. I was trolling on the internet downloading songs this morning and came across a review of Get Behind Me Satan (what a fucking cool album title, yeah?). Hadn't realized they had released a new one. The reviews were raving and built it up - pounding piano, vocal style experimentation, a departure from their previous releases, and a marimba. A marimba? Well hell, I've gotta get this album. The cover art is what did it for me. No downloading for me. I bought it so I could have the masterpiece on the front cover which happens to go so well with the title.
One of the best opening lines that has ever graced my ears... "If you think that a kiss is all in the lips, c'mon, you got it all wrong, man. And if you think that our dance was all in the hips, oh well, then do the twist." (listen to it here).
I'm experimenting with growing my own bonsai trees. What makes me think I am capable of nuturing one and keeping it happy and healthy is beyond me. I've had three bonsai trees at different points in my life and they all died within a few months. I took five clippings from a ficus tree and rooted them in some water. Two of the clippings have enough root structure to plant, so I did that this evening. I'm anxious to see if this actually works or if they wither up and die on me.
