I always end up liking the kinda-sorta bad boy who is emotionally stunted in general, but secretly has a heart of gold and a desire to be honorable (in his own way). Because those characters are *hot*. You usually have the good guy, the bad guy, and the waffler (aka your paramour of choice). You see the most growth with the wafflers, and they're the most interesting because most people can connect with them in some way. Yes, they're frustrating as hell, but that's what makes 'em real. And it doesn't hurt that they're usually photogenic.
