300 was very, very good. I really enjoyed it, especially the way the battle sequences were filmed. I was expecting it to follow the historical account much less than it actually did, so that was a plus. The comic-bookish creatures weren't too overdone to detract from the movie, which I was also pleasantly surprised with. I had heard in several reviews that the acting was atrocious. I'm not sure what movie those particular reviewers were watching, but I noticed nothing wrong with the acting. And, in some parts, I thought the acting was quite extraordinary. Basically, I thought all the reviewers complaints were unfounded. Go figure. I've never put much stock in movie critics, especially now that they all seem to let any sort of political or social beliefs to infiltrate their enjoyment of whatever movie they might be viewing.

To expound on that a bit, I noticed that critics and viewers love The Prisoner,a British television show from the 1960's. I cannot find a negative reviews of it online, and any complaints voiced about it were minor things mentioned in an aside. Personally, I thought it was a half-assed show that hadn't been planned well. It spun its wheels for the entire seventeen episodes that were filmed and seemed extremely self indulgent on the creator's behalf. The acting was horrible, and the dialogue wasn't very well crafted at all. It seemed to be obtuse just for the sake of it. The show barely held my interest in the first five episodes, and it lost my interest in the remaining twelve. I watched it regardless, but my knitting was far more interesting than anything that was happening on the screen. The only credit I will give the show was that it dared to be different than all other television shows at the time. However, even that fell flat when they weren't able to craft the differences well. All it all, I thought it was a fumbling attempt at originality - like a fanfic you read that has an amazing plot with a writer who has little to no talent and is far too eager to get across their ideas.

Jason's mother called my cell while we were at the movie theater last night. Thankfully, I had silenced my phone before she called. She wants to enter Jason's sister's baby in a baby Gap contest. She has a computer with a burner, but can't use it. She left me a message asking me to stop by and help her. I wasn't in the mood after the movie last night, so I guess I'll go over there after dinner today. Ferguson and I usually walk by her house on our two mile walk. I was going to do three miles tonight by taking another route, but I guess I can make some modifications and drop by her place anyway. The baby Gap contest is ridiculous, but whatever. I guess I have no choice but to be party to this silliness.

I'm getting new walking shoes this weekend! I'm dragging Jason to New Balance with me to pick some out because he needs shoes as well.

Oh, and this is my favorite commercial EVER:
